Brain Surgery encompasses a variety of procedures, including craniotomy for intracerebral hematoma, meningioma (brain tumor), subdural hematoma, and tumor. Other important techniques include burr hole drainage, craniotomy for epidural hematoma, and microvascular decompression for trigeminal neuralgia. Additionally, stereotactic biopsy is performed, along with suboccipital craniectomy for acoustic neuroma, transsphenoidal surgery for tumors, and ventriculoperitoneal shunt for hydrocephalus.
Cerebrovascular Surgery is critical for conditions such as aneurysm clipping, microvascular decompression for trigeminal neuralgia, and resection of cerebral arteriovenous malformation. This field also includes cranial bypasses, like the superficial temporal artery to middle cerebral artery bypass, and carotid endarterectomy. While back surgery and spinal surgery focus on the spine's health and stability, endovascular surgery offers minimally invasive options for vascular issues, complementing the essential work of brain and cerebrovascular surgeries.
Neuroendovascular Surgery, also known as endovascular neurosurgery or interventional neuroradiology, is a minimally invasive surgical specialty focused on diagnosing and treating disorders of the brain, spine, and their blood vessels using catheters and advanced imaging techniques. This field encompasses various procedures, including brain surgery for brain aneurysms through coil embolization or flow diversion, as well as addressing arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) with embolization using glue or other agents. Additionally, cerebrovascular surgery is vital for treating ischemic strokes via mechanical thrombectomy (clot removal) and hemorrhagic strokes through aneurysm coiling or AVM embolization. Other treatments involve managing carotid artery disease with carotid artery stenting, endovascular embolization for dural arteriovenous fistulas (DAVFs), and pre-surgical embolization for tumors, such as meningiomas, to reduce bleeding. Furthermore, spinal surgery can be part of the comprehensive approach to cervical and intracranial arterial stenosis management.
Spinal Surgery procedures include various techniques aimed at addressing back surgery needs. Among these are ALIF, or Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion, and the Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion. Additionally, there is the option for Artificial Cervical Disc Replacement, fracture stabilization, and minimally invasive interventions such as Kyphoplasty and Vertebroplasty. Other surgical options include Laminectomy, Lumbar Disc Microsurgery, Lumbar Hemilaminectomy, and Lumbar Foraminotomy. Techniques like Minimally-Invasive Lumbar Microdecompression and Minimally-Invasive TLIF (Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion) are also available.
